As the nights have become longer, sadly the number of tool thefts have started to increase. With this in mind, contractors face a real dilemma. Should you advertise your business on your van?
One Tree Surgeon has told us that his vehicle is one of the best sources of business. He even has a leaflet dispenser on the side for when he is at a job – what a GREAT idea. His van says, ‘Call John your local tree surgeon’. But unfortunately, this also says, ‘my van has chainsaws in it – please come and steal them when my owner is not looking!’
Most insurers won’t cover tools stolen from vehicles overnight. From what I understand, most people don’t actually risk leaving equipment in their vans after dark – this doesn’t remove the risk though. Firstly, thieves work during the day and seem to be getting braver. We have even had reports of a few thefts while vehicles are on driveways. The other point, as our client says – ‘I don’t even keep the tools in overnight, but I still have at least one attempted break in a year that costs me a few hundred pounds in repairs’.
Does the benefit of advertising your business on your vehicle outweigh the risk?
I am aware of one very well-known equipment company that has removed all their logos from their vehicles for this reason. What do you think? Head over to our Facebook page and let us know what you do?
