The extra Bank Holidays for the Coronation mean we now have 3 Mondays off in May. Is this good news for you, or a right royal pain ?
Do you have to give your staff the extra days off? And if so, will you be paying them? It’s a complicated subject. It’s not just about your obligations as an employer and the type of contracts you have in place with your employees. Are they inclusive of bank holidays – ie. 33 days a year including 8 bank holidays – so what happens now there are 9?
You could choose not to pay staff, but it will have a negative impact on morale for sure. I would rather not pay my staff here, but it would certainly cost me a lot more than a days wages!
So, let’s assume you want to work, but do your customers want you to work? They might not approve. What is the impact of local street parties on being able to do your job safely?
