This week I heard another reason why a contractor does not need Employers Liability Insurance.
‘I get the client to help – it helps me undercut the competition’.
This was from an Arborist who had been trained at a well-known college. I pointed out that this has a few Health & Safety implications and we would not be able to insure him – he was stunned.
The complete lack of basic Health & Safety knowledge and responsibilities can be appalling. The dreadful safety record of Arboriculture and Forestry speaks for itself.
Far too many people finish Arb or Forestry courses with absolutely no idea of their responsibilities. This does nothing for the industry’s image or the price structure professionals can charge. This really needs to change. I, like many, believe Arb & Forestry needs statutory regulation and soon!!
